OOC: Historical Gaffage!

Heh, I put all this time into reading letters and checking dates for my WWI fic, and then I managed to use "Tommies" instead of "Jerries" for the Germans in the piece. Which I didn't catch even after reading it over several times .-.
Thanks todidnt_blink for pointing this out! I'm planning to do quite a bit of international travel/historical exploration in my stories, so if anyone ever notices any other "um, say what?" points in any stories I write, jump right on in and smack me! I LOVE accuracy (and not looking like too much of an idjit, yeah ;P).
Also, I think writing fic might have me getting interested in *poetry.* Of all things. I'm a terrible poet skeptic. But I read Whitman's "Passage to India" a few days ago, and some bits seem so evocative and appropriate. I love stumbling on images. And, really, I had a point to this entry, I could swear I did, but I have forgotten what it was :|
OH. Beta-ing. I notice people mention beta readers, sometimes. Do you just ping friends to run rough drafts by them, or is there some more official, organized way of getting work vetted before putting it out to the greater world at large? Silly question, but I thought I'd ask.
